Ormerers, we’d like your help, so that we can help you.

Whenever a section of our island’s coastline is targeted for destruction, redevelopment or change in the name of profit one of the strongest factors in fighting for the protection of that area is consistently the loss of ecosystems and areas that allow our waters to stay healthy and abundant. One of the most limiting factors when building a case around the protection of ecosystems and species habitats is a lack of data to be able to present as part of the case. Whilst us ocean users might know full well that a particular area is of importance for spawning or growth, the men and women in suits who make the final decisions are - in most cases - dedicated land dwellers and often only data to back up our claims of ‘experience and knowledge’ can convince them of the natural validity of an area.

As harvesters of the ocean’s bounty you are no doubt fully aware of the need to protect species numbers in order to leave enough individuals to provide again next season and so we are asking you to help us gain as much population data this 2021 ormering season as possible, so that we can begin to build a data set that can be called upon in any future case scenario where it might be needed.

This form allows you to submit your harvesting data anonymously - we are simply interested in the numbers currently to be found.

NOTE : We appreciate that an organisation founded to preserve marine life stocks might seem to be threatening to your way of life, but we want to assure you this is not the case. Please see the FAQ section to gain a further understanding of our thoughts on sustenance & recreational fishing.
