Shipwreck Seal watch

With the recent news that a local fishing boat had gone down in a storm to the North of Herm we were alarmed to find out that the fisherman himself had been rescued from the small rocky outcrop that our local seal population have made their home. With the potential for both fishing waste and the boat itself washing up on the rocks and endangering the safety of the Seals we set out on a chilly December afternoon with our friends from Island Rib Voyages to carry out a review of the rocks and - if needed - remove any dangerous items.

After a two hour expedition and a thorough review of the islet - and a count and overview of the seals we found there - we returned to Guernsey happy that no marine pollution or dangerous items had so far washed up. With storms and currents always active active around this area we will keep a watchful eye over the summer and take action if needed.
